Free Information and Advice

One to one Advice or Guidance Sessions are available for customers at designated times each week, when it is deemed appropriate and beneficial by staff and the customer.

The Colchester Learning Shop holds a range of free up-to-date leaflets, prospectuses and brochures from local learning establishments for customers to take away or read in the shop. Customers can seek general advice on learning and education in Colchester and surrounding areas. Some of the information is available in audio, Braille and large print.

Free Access to Adult Directions

Customers can book to use Adult Directions, a computerised career-choice package. The package can be booked for use at specific times during Shop opening hours or can be used elsewhere if you have access to a broadband connection

Appointments with an Open University Adviser

Customers can drop in to discuss any queries with an OU adviser regarding study with the Open University each Tuesday between 10.30am and 2.00pm. Alternatively customers can book an appointment with the adviser by contacting The Learning Shop during opening hours.

Volunteering Opportunities

Customers can drop in to browse through folders, supplied by Colchester Volunteer Centre which contain an extensive range of up to date opportunities.

Displays

The shop holds displays throughout the year on different subject areas and local courses that are available.

Compliments and Complaints Procedure

The Colchester Learning Shop has a Compliments and Complaints Procedure, details are available from staff.

The Colchester Learning Shop is funded by five partner organisations: Colchester Institute, The Open University in the East of England, The Adult Community College Colchester, The Sixth Form College, Colchester and the University of Essex. The relationship of the shop with these five organisations does not affect its impartiality or confidentiality.
